unemployment

                 Unemployment on the rise
The number of people claiming job seekers allowance has increased in  South Yorkshire over the past year well above the national average. The figure increased to 42,435 this is 5,277 more than the same time last year. This figure is a gross underestimate of the problem as it fails to include the many young people who are not claiming the benefit.
Prospects for the area look grim as the department for work and pensions gave workers Yule tide news of a thousand job losses in the city. This comes after Sheffield city council announced in November plans to cut a further 700 jobs. Job losses are a real blow to our communities and lead to other social problems such as crime, mental health issues and increased suicide rates. In order to defend our communities from unemployment we need to fight to save every job.
